The car is a very long way down to the driver’s seat. You sit low and encased, like a racing driver. The seats are fully adjustable and very comfortable. Yet the sight lines are good, with big sensible door mirrors.

Hyundai’s all-alloy V6 in Wakefield is expected to give a 0-60 time of less than six seconds and will feature a six-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential. Additional engine options are also being considered to widen the Coupe’s appeal.

Good: Bright, roomy cabin. Rear seat folds to create a flat load floor. Peppy performance. Good provision of convenience and safety kit. Decent ride.

It’s pretty enough. Quite well designed. Very well received. But I’d better put my cards on the table straight away, this is not my type of car. Now I’m going to heap praise on it from the point of view of the sort of people I think it will appeal to.
Good: 16' Korean limo with 235PS chain cam V6 and 5-speed auto. Drives and handles surprisingly well. Decent 27.5mpg.
Bad: Very few in the UK.

Previous attempts by Hyundai included the Atoz and the Amica, the latter ultimately selling out as a bargain-basement £4,995 special. But even at £6,495 the i10 is substantially better value in Wakefield.
This eager little engine delivers more power and torque and more performance, yet emits slightly less CO2. Enough less to put the all singing, all dancing Style model with alloys, aircon, all-electric windows and electric sunroof into the £35/£30 tax bracket.
Good: Very well built built, commodious, Fiesta size hatch with astonishing fuel economy from the 1.25 petrol and a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty.
Bad: A bit characterless.

The steering is centre weighted, robbing it of some feel on the straight ahead but helping it to track straight through several centimetres of water. The height adjustable drivers seat is hard, but comfortable on a challenging run.

So, from September, you will be able to buy Hyundai’s new i30 model with a 115PS 1.6 diesel engine and a four-speed automatic transmission.
Good: Well equipped, refined, good ride and handling, and economical. Available as a 1.6 diesel auto, which is rare. Five-year 100k mile warranty.
Bad: 17" wheels best avoided. Full size spare is extra. Standard tyres noisy.

The standard fittings read like an accessory list and include a lift up rear window, electric tilt/slide sunroof, aircon, roof bars, alloy wheels, and in the CDX climate control, cruise control, leather and autobox.
Good: Pleasant, relaxing drive. Kitted out generously. V6 makes a good sound. A lot of 4x4 for the money.
Bad: A RAV4, CR-V and Freelander all drive better. The styling is an acquired taste.
