Good: Comfortable, well equipped and dependable. Huge range of body styles and refined, economical engines. Rated highly by owners.

Good: Relaxed, amiable drive. Decent build and capable of high mileage. The 1.6 and 1.8 have a good blend of performance and economy.
Bad: It's no looker. Heavy on front tyres and doesn't handle well. Lambda sensors and steering racks prone to failure.

Toyota Camry (1996 - 2002)

Good: Spacious saloon stacked full of kit. Relaxed, pleasant drive. Highly praised by those who own them. Cheap now.

This car is rear engined, has four doors and uses a lot of plastics as well as steel in its body frame. It is being manufactured at a new plant near Kolkata, with an initial capacity of 250,000 cars a year.

Suzuki Alto (2009 - )

Good: Cute little Citroen C1 clone offering low emissions, low tax, good fuel economy and a proper 4-speed automatic option. Decent to drive.
Bad: Thrummy 3-cylinder engine. Not as sophisticated as a Hyundai i10.

Suzuki Grand Vitara SWB (2005 - )

Good: Cute looking, like old model SWB RAV-4. Useful low, flat luggage area with side opening door.
Bad: A bit cruder to drive than RAV-4, yet still a vast improvement on old Vitara.

Suzuki SX4 (2006 - )

Good: Reasonably spacious five-seater with a decent boot. Strong, economical diesel. Tidy handling in 4WD.
Bad: The boot has a high loading lip. Originally you could not get a diesel with four-wheel drive but from 2008 you can.
